IBPS PO Job Description – Probationary Officer
A Probationary Officer is recruited for an officer-level position in a participating public sector bank. Candidates selected through the IBPS process will be provisionally allotted to a bank, after which the concerned bank will complete eligibility verification, medical examination and appointment formalities.
The exact probation period, training programme, work allocation, posting location and service conditions will be determined by the participating bank.
IBPS Management Trainee Job Description

The selected officer will begin with a basic salary of ₹48,480 per month. The pay scale provides:
- An annual increment of ₹2,000 for seven years, taking the basic pay to ₹62,480.
- An increment of ₹2,340 for the next two years, taking the basic pay to ₹67,160.
- An increment of ₹2,680 for the following seven years, taking the basic pay up to ₹85,920.

The descriptive paper will be conducted in English. Its topics may broadly relate to economic and social issues, banking and technology trends, current events and ethics.
IBPS PO Negative Marking 2026
A penalty will apply to wrong answers in the objective Preliminary and Main examinations. One-fourth, or 0.25, of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each incorrect answer. No penalty will be imposed for unanswered questions.
